A bit later than I expected, but here is the diary entry for Friday!!!

Today was going to be the last school day of school until the weekend so we got out of bed quickly to make sure we got there in time since we were a bit late. Luckily we got there in time and since I had to go to Bachiller, the school were Maitane has to be as well, we saved a lot of time.

The first class we had was a year 1 class in which the students are about 16 years old. We had an open debate on whether school uniforms should be obligated or not and even though we have done it multiple times now, it is suprising to see all the children in different classes keep coming up with different and new arguments.

For the second class we had to go to another building where we had to teach children who are in year 1 as well, but when you are in year 1 in this building you are 12 years old. With them we talked about extreme sports, which is something that we also did with other classes.

After that we had a year 3 class, in the same building, so they were about 15 years old. With them, we also had the discussion on school uniforms but this class was not really into it as much as the other ones were which was ashame.

After that class we had a break so Scott and I started talking about the stuff we were going to do next week. We have decided that I am going to tell something about a Dutch holiday, Scott will tell something about an American holiday and after that the children would have to tell something about a Spanish or Basque holiday. Something extra we could do for the older classes is that we are going to look at how immigration can affect a holiday. I decided to say something about Sinterklaas, since there has been a very big discussion about the zwarte pieten in the Netherlands. Scott will tell the students something about Colombus day, which is celebrated in two completely different ways by the native Americans and the other Americans. The Americans see him as a hero who discovered their country, but for the native Americans he is a horrible man who massacred a lot of people.

Afterwards I went to Maitane and her friends to have lunch together which was soup, fish, yoghurt and bread. The fish was not that good but the other things were and her mother also gave some other cookies that I could eat so at the end of the break I was still full. I went back to the other building again, but Scott had break at that time so I went to his classroom to read for a little while until he came back. Something that is very different from our school is that the children at Lauro go and have lunch in the cantine and after that they come back to school. They will be in the hallways, classrooms, literally everywhere whereas we just have a one big hall where everyone will stay.

After Scott came back we still had 30 minutes until the new class would start which is a year 4 class, so about my age. Scott told me that this class is very motivated and loves to have debates, so thats what we did. When the students entered the class one guy immediately came up to me to ask if I was from the USA, since he had a student in his house from the USA who was also giving oral classes, but at another school. After introducing myself and answering some questions it was time to start the debate and you could immediately see that this class was very passionate and every single student joined.

After this class it was time to go to the primary school again, where we would have the same classes as we had on Wednesday. Today we would not learn the children any new sounds but we would repeat the shape song and twinkle twinkle little star and after that we would play a game; "Who took the cookie from the cookie jar" which was fun.

After that I went home together with Maitane but we had to hurry because she had to go her aunt since the teaches her French and she was also going to teach me some, even though I dropped it a few weeks ago. It was quite alright and after that she made us some crepes with chocolate and sugar which were delicious!!

Then it was time to go home and get ready for dinner which we would have in the city together with Maitane"s friends. At first, we wanted to go to an Irish bar but since it was so full, we decided to go somewhere else. Together we shared all our food, so we had chicken nuggets, nachos, french fries, hamburgers and so much more. After that we decided to go eat an ice cream which was at a place called llaollao. It is an icecream bar where you can choose the size of your cup and add certain topings like nutella, orea cookies, smarties etc. I chose the smallest cup since I was already really full with the nutella chocolate and it was delicious. While eating the ice cream Maitane and her friends showed me some parts of Bilbao but then it was time to go home.

We were actually meant to celebrate carnival on friday night but we didnt since the concert would only start at 1AM which was a bit too late.
